Everyday truly does hold something new. Somedays may hold an unexpected letter from home. Some a suprise bouquet of flowers. Others might produce a check in the mail that you forgot you were getting. But if you've had my week the somethings new might include the formerly mentioned dead sheep, people spitting on you as they drive past in their car, and seven year olds stabbing you with pencils.
All I can say is praise the Lord, I have a whole week of vacation.

Yep, think you're getting the "True" Egyptian experience! My wife (also blonde) pretty much hated the place for those exact same reasons. Being blonde you stand out like an alien from another planet, and being western means you're a slut by definition. More of a "patriarch society" problem than a Muslim one, but a pain for all western ladies (and a lot of Arab ladies) nonetheless. Conservative apparel, headscarf, and dark sunglasses will decrease the harassment--if you don't mind playing their BS game.
Good luck and try to not let the VERY ill manners of a few destroy your fun in Egypt!

I might be weird, but I don't mind getting the "true Egyptian experience". OK, no it isn't really fun. Yes, it is insulting. But I come out of it unharmed and it makes for stories to tell later on and it gives me something to blog about besides kids. It also gives insight into the Egyptian culture and how they feel about Westerners or at least Western women. Part of the reason I'm excited about being here is observing another culture, another people group who have a completely different mindset than I do. If that's the worst I have to endure, then I think I can handle it (handling the kids in my class is much more challenging than that!). Thanks for the encouragement and tips.
